Ses Illetes
Ses Illetes: A Jewel of Formentera
Ses Illetes is a dazzling paradise that epitomises the beauty of Formentera, featuring powdery white sands and crystal-clear turquoise waters. Frequently hailed as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, Ses Illetes is also one of the island's most popular destinations. Both the beach and the surrounding Ses Salines Natural Park have earned the prestigious designation of UNESCO World Heritage Site, thanks to their pristine ecosystems and the Posidonia oceanica meadows—a vital seagrass species endemic to the Mediterranean that thrives beneath its waters.
Reaching Ses Illetes is convenient, with access by car, motorcycle, bicycle, public bus, or taxi. During the summer months, visitors arriving by motorized vehicles are required to pay a small fee to park, while bicycles are allowed entry free of charge. The beach is inclusive and accessible, featuring a disabled-friendly ramp at Cavall d’en Borràs, ensuring everyone can enjoy its tranquil beauty. Whether you're looking for fine dining or a relaxed meal with your toes in the sand, Ses Illetes has options for every taste.
Ses Illetes is more than a beach—it’s an immersion in natural beauty, culinary delights, and tranquil luxury, making it an essential stop for any visitor to Formentera.
The Solitary Island
At the northernmost point of Ses Illetes, visitors will find Espalmador, a small, uninhabited island separated from Formentera by a shallow channel. While adventurous swimmers occasionally attempt to cross, the safest and most convenient way to visit Espalmador is by ferry, which departs regularly from La Savina harbor.
The Hungry Bits
Dining is an integral part of the Ses Illetes experience, with numerous beachfront restaurants offering both refined and authentic local cuisine. Enjoy freshly caught fish, traditional paella, and Mediterranean delicacies at iconic establishments such as Juan y Andrea, Es Molí de Sal, Tanga, El Pirata, Beso Beach, and Tiburón.
The Twins Beaches
A short distance from Ses Illetes beach, exactly on the opposite side of the sandbar, we find Llevant beach. These two beaches are so close that they are often called “The Twins”. A particularity to admire is the phenomenon of the pink beach: tiny fragments of coral dust give some stretches of fine white sand a pink hue.
