San Ferran

The Spirit of the Hippie Era; Sant Ferran de Ses Roques is a village steeped in both historical and countercultural significance. Originally established as a settlement for salt workers, it later became a haven for the free-spirited lifestyle of the 1960s and 70s. Fonda Pepe, an iconic hippy gathering spot, remains a focal point of the town’s bohemian character. Legends of Bob Dylan’s time add to its mystique, while the local guitar workshop, known for crafting instruments for rock legends like Pink Floyd, underscores its artistic heritage. Today, Sant Ferran preserves its laid-back, authentic vibe, making it a must-visit for those seeking a taste of Formentera’s creative and unconventional spirit.

At the end of 1883 works finally began on a new church, located in the place chosen by the residents: San Ferran de Ses Roques. The church of Sant Ferran was inaugurated in 1889 and is the smallest parish of the island. It has a Latin cross floor plan, with two chapels on either side of the presbytery. It was declared of historical cultural interest in 1996.
